Elwood streets are lovely, and tight
Elwood, in the City of Port Phillip, is a built-up beachside suburb. Its streets are lined with big London plane trees, and many blocks are interwar flats with little or no off-street parking. That means a lot of cars parked on both sides of narrow streets, and a lot of damage that happens when nobody is around.
The jobs Elwood drivers bring us most often:
- Parked car damage. Scrapes, dented doors and knocked mirrors from cars squeezing past on narrow streets.
- Tree and kerb damage. Low branches and high kerbs under the plane trees catch roofs, wheels and bumpers.
- Beach road bumps. Marine Parade and the streets near Elwood Beach and Point Ormond Reserve get busy on warm weekends, with cars hunting for a park and pulling out without looking.
- Cyclist and door contact. The Bayside Trail brings a lot of bike riders through Elwood. If a rider and a car door meet, check everyone is safe first, then swap details and take photos.
- Main road crashes. Brighton Road, with the route 67 tram on the northern edge, plus Barkly Street and Glen Huntly Road carry heavy traffic.
Getting from Elwood to Carnegie
- From Elwood Village and Ormond Road: head to Glen Huntly Road and drive east. Turn north at Grange Road and follow it up to Dandenong Road, near our shop at 1064 Dandenong Rd.
- From Point Ormond and Marine Parade: take Glen Huntly Road east the same way.
- From the Brighton Road side: Brighton Road and Dandenong Road also get you here.
Outside peak, it’s around 10 minutes. Allow more time on summer weekends and in school and commuter traffic. We have on-site parking in our driveway, which is a nice change from hunting for a park in Elwood.
