Electric cars need a different approach after a crash. Before anyone touches the body, the high-voltage system has to be made safe. We repair Tesla and other electric and plug-in hybrid cars at our Moorabbin and Carnegie shops, following each manufacturer’s published repair procedures. Tesla, for example, publishes its body repair manuals online.
We’re authorised by Tesla to buy genuine Tesla parts and repair to Tesla’s methods.
If you weren’t at fault, or your policy lets you choose your repairer, you can ask for your EV to come to us. We repair all makes and models, including electric cars from every brand.

Tesla models we repair
- Tesla Model 3. A sedan with aluminium and steel in its body and cameras around the car for its driver-assist features. Even a bumper repair means refitting and checking sensors.
- Tesla Model Y. An SUV that uses large single-piece castings in its body structure on many builds. Damage near a casting is repaired or replaced exactly as Tesla’s repair methods set out.
- Tesla Model S and Model X. Larger, mostly aluminium cars, so much of the bodywork is done in our dedicated aluminium repair bay.
From a scraped bumper or a dented door to major damage, every Tesla repair follows Tesla’s repair methods for that model.
Other electric cars and plug-in hybrids
We also repair electric cars and plug-in hybrids from other brands, including BMW i models, Mercedes-Benz EQ, Audi e-tron, Porsche Taycan, Polestar, Volvo, Hyundai, Kia, BYD, MG and Cupra. Each one is repaired to its own manufacturer’s procedures.
What matters in an EV repair
High-voltage safety
We repair EVs and Teslas safely, and the high-voltage system is made safe before any body or paint work starts. This follows the manufacturer’s procedure for that model.
Battery checks
Damage near the battery pack is assessed carefully, and a damaged EV is parked in a separate area while it waits for repair.
Genuine parts
We’re authorised by Tesla to buy genuine Tesla parts, and we use the parts each manufacturer specifies for the repair. Every part is listed on your written quote.
Large castings and aluminium
Some EVs, including recent Teslas, use large single-piece castings and aluminium. Damage to these follows the manufacturer’s repair procedure exactly, which may mean replacing a whole section. Aluminium is repaired in our dedicated aluminium repair bay, with its own tools, so it isn’t contaminated by steel dust. Read more about our aluminium car body repairs.
Paint-oven temperatures
Manufacturers set limits on heat near the battery, and the repair has to stay within them. We colour-match and blend the paint so the repair matches the rest of the car.
Cameras and sensors
EVs rely heavily on cameras and radar for driver-assist features. These are checked and calibrated after the repair where the manufacturer requires it, and any calibration is listed on your quote.
Why the right repairer matters for your EV
An electric car can look like any other car from the outside, but the repair is different underneath. The battery sits under the floor, high-voltage cables run through the body, and many panels are aluminium. A repairer has to know where these are before cutting, welding or heating anything near them.
The wrong repair can also cause problems you don’t see straight away, such as a sensor that’s slightly out of position, corrosion where aluminium was contaminated, or paint cured at a temperature that’s too high near the battery. Following the manufacturer’s procedure for each step avoids this, and it’s why every quote we write lists the parts, the procedure and any calibration.
After an accident in your EV
If there is any damage underneath the car, a warning light, smoke, a smell or unusual noise, don’t drive it. Move away from the car, call 000 if there is any sign of fire, and have it towed. Read our guide to towing after an accident in Victoria.
When it’s safe, take photos of the damage and send them to us. We can pick up your car on request from anywhere in Melbourne.
Not at fault, or choice of repairer?
If another driver caused the accident and you’re claiming from their insurer, you can generally choose your repairer. When the at-fault driver’s insurer pays for the repair, you pay $0, and there’s no excess on your own policy.
On your own policy, choice of repairer depends on what the policy says, and you pay only your insurer’s excess.
A hire car and third-party recovery are arranged through our third-party partner, subject to their eligibility and terms. Read more about not-at-fault accident repairs and hire cars after a not-at-fault accident.
